As a CWA union member from 1981-2003 it is clear that men have benefited from the sectoral organizing strategy. CWA is organized to section off men and women in the union. 1101 represented most of the highest paying jobs in the union held by men such as the craft semi skilled electrical jobs; yet my mom was in 1105 which was mostly operators and clerical women. CWA can be so much better if they didn't split the union into gender dominated jobs. Sectoral organizing is not advantageous to women or female dominated vocations such as childcare worker. CWA has ignored gender issues in the workplace. If they did take this issue seriously, they would have demanded childcare as a part of their negotiations for their workers.
